Santiago Dominican Republic

The city of Santiago de los Caballeros was the first capital of the country until it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1562.

The city got its name from the thirty Spanish nobility who followed Columbus and settled in the area in 1495.

The second largest city in the Dominican Republic is affectionately known as "Ciudad Corazón," which literally translates to "the city in the heart of the Cibao Valley."

Today, Ciudad Corazón is a modern and cosmopolitan center that is thriving in commerce, finance, education, and services, and it is pulsing with culture. Near city Constanza

Affectionately referred to as "El Monumento," the Monumento a Los Héroes de la Restauración is the city's most prominent landmark and social hub.

Not only does it tower over the city's sprawling urban streets, but it also serves as a constant reminder of the men who regained the Dominican Republic's independence from Spain in 1865.

The mountain range known as the Cordillera Central can be seen in the distance, and it offers a wide variety of trekking opportunities. History, arts, and culture are never far away in Santiago; the Centro Cultural León offers a comprehensive display of the country's rich heritage. see Jarabacoa

Furthermore, history, arts, and culture are an integral part of this significant region as the birthplace of the Mirabal Sisters as well as several presidents of the Dominican Republic.

In addition to being home to a number of educational institutions, this region is teeming with an energetic population of millennials, as well as professionals.

All of these individuals take pleasure in the city's thriving entertainment and nightlife, which features over one hundred discos, bars, and lounges within the downtown area alone.

Despite the fast-paced lifestyle of the big metropolis, traditions run deep.

Because Santiago is home to the popular Aguilas Cibaeas team, which has won three Caribbean Series crowns and 22 national titles since 1952, there is a thriving interest for baseball in the city.

The city and its surrounding areas are home to some of the most skilled artisans and painters in the Dominican Republic, and the Santiago Carnival is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious celebrations in the entire nation.

The devil costumes at the Santiago Carnival feature the second-most hand-bejeweled jewelry of any in the country.

In addition, the province was endowed by mother nature with rich soils that are ideal for the cultivation of the world's finest tobacco.

As a result, Santiago has been dubbed "Cigar Country" due to the presence of ninety percent of the world's largest cigar farms and manufacturers.

Fans of puro will also be able to locate all of the premium brand factories at Tamboril, which are located close to the city center and offer free daily tours as well as exclusive shopping options.

Santiago is characterized by its culture, its innovative spirit, and its rapid pace.

Yet, just a few minutes outside of the city boundaries, the serene sight of mountains and the crisp air transport you far away from the bustle and commotion of the city, plunging you into the breathtaking Cibao heartland.

The Cibao International Airport (STI) is situated in a convenient location, only thirty minutes away from the heart of the city.
